Granada weather
The province of Granada is divided by the Sierra Nevada mountain range into different weather zones. The capital Granada, about 50 km from the Mediterranean coast and situated on a 680 m high plateau, features a rather continental climate with cool winters (often with snow) and very hot summers.
The nearby Sierra Nevada peaks, some of them surpassing the height of 3,000 m, are covered with snow almost half of the year and provide excellent skiing possibilities in the cold months. On the contrary, the Costa Tropical in the south of the capital has a maritime climate, similar to the Costa del Sol in Malaga, with warm summers and mild winters.
The average precipitation in Granada is 354 mm per year (comparison: London 753 mm), and most of the rain/snow falls between November and April.
